They say that good things come in small packages. In this case though, it’s not only a small package, but it’s an extremely tidy one too, with a complete absence of messy cables.

Toshiba-Dynadock

This smart hub takes advantage of UWB-based Wireless USB to give Toshiba laptop and notebook owners with USB 2.0 total wireless connectivity and DVI HD output at 1920X1080 in either 16 or 32 bit colour. Toshiba also claims that from its three rear USB ports, The Dynadock W20 can power up to 3 monitors simultaneously – pretty handy if you’re a designer perhaps or a picture editor looking for some flexible multi screen viewing. It also has another front facing USB port that is sleep and charge enabled, offering a constant power supply to recharge all those empty batteries in need of a power boost.

The Dynadock W20, which can also run on a wired connection for those not fully convinced of the reliability of wireless, can handle audio too with an analogue line in out and a microphone input.

This device is firmly aimed at both the business and private user who despises the spaghetti that collects around today’s technology toys, and is yearning for something sleek and discreet. Coming in at a modest 110mm x 86mm x 145mm, its glossy black case can be tucked away on or under most desk tops to provide clandestine connectivity.

Up to now, hot desking in the office has been something of a mission, what with having to reconnect and log on etc. This piece of kit will certainly interest hot deskers but more importantly could herald the beginnings of a cable free future. Something most of us would welcome with open arms, unless of course you happen to be a manufacturer of cables.

The Toshiba Dynadock W20 will be available from third quarter of 2010 for £196 plus VAT.
