Asus Eee PC 1015PEM and 1018P: Asus speeds up the netbook experience

By Naomi Mackay,

Netbooks are getting better all the time – and the latest to show it’s set to compete with the big boys is Asus, which has just launched its latest generation of Eee PC netbooks – the first to come to market with Intel’s latest N550 Dual Core Atom processor.

The speed that this now gives the netbooks – the 1015PEM and 1018P – means that for a price tag starting at £279, you can get a high-speed computing experience not just for browsing the net, but for games, AdobeFlash, high-def YouTube videos and other cloud computing content.

They also boast a pretty decent battery life – Asus reckons 11.5 hours – which is enough to take you through a working day (and a bit more depending on how long your working day is!)

The 10in Asus Eee Pc netbooks are designed to be portable and they have an ultra-slim design, the 1018P is cloaked in brushed aluminium, and set to silence the critics who say that netbooks are ugly. The 1018P, meanwhile, comes in a choice of four colours – red, blue, black and white.

Their small size and ultraportability should make them useful tools for keeping up on social networks while you’re out and about, playing games on your morning train, or even keeping the children amused on a flight with some cartoons.

The netbooks boast webcams, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n and USB 3.0 ports for faster data transfer.

Priced at £279 inc Vat for the 1015PEM and £349 inc VAT for the 1018P, this latest generation of Eee PC netbooks are available from a number of online retailers this week.
