Asus U36 Ultra-Portable Notebook: Setting new standards in tech chic style
I think we can safely say that today gadgets are as an important fashion accessory as handbags and shoes, and it is to the fashion-conscious amongst us that the new Asus U36 ultra-portable notebook is being marketed, and like most ‘fashion-conscious’ entities, being thin is of the essence.
The “world’s thinnest notebook” – how many times have we heard that? – is just 19mm thick, is made lightweight magnesium alloy with nanometer coating, so that it easily repels water, dirt and fingerprint marks.
So what about the U36’s internal assets? Is there anything particularly noteworthy about this gadget other than the fact it’s a real head turner?
Ah, after a closer inspection of the Asus press release, it’s not that the U36 is really the world’s thinnest notebook, but is the world’s thinnest notebook to harness the power of a standard voltage Intel Core i5 processor, giving users the freedom to ‘stay light and connected on the move without compromising on mobile performance.’
Although what is possibly the U36’s greatest quality is its whopping 11.5 hours of battery life, an strength not normally associated with ultra-thin notebooks. This mega-impressive battery life is, we are told, due to combining Asus Super Hybrid Engine – which has the ability to switch off USB3.0 functionality) and NVIDIA graphics and Optimus technology that saves power for when it is needed most.
The NVIDIA graphics card blasts out crystal-clear sounds and pictures, ensuring videos and games are an uninterrupted experience.
Like this season’s dress or this season’s jeans, the Asus U36 is available in metallic silver or black making it a bang-on trend this season – Let’s hope for Asus’s sake it has a greater longevity than most ‘this season’ fashion items.
So what’s the financial damage for such a tech chic stylish gadget?
At £699 the Asus U36 ultra-portable Notebook isn’t cheap, but then again being a dedicated follower of fashion never was cheap.
