GEAR4 SmartDoc: Plug and play iPod dock
If you’re familiar with an iPhone or iPod Touch, the good news is that GEAR4’s new speaker system should be a breeze to operate.
The HouseParty SmartDock allows you to use the large touchscreen of your device to navigate the speakers’ function – just download the SmartDock app and you’re away.
The speaker has two alarm functions, which let you wake up to a choice of built-in sounds, breakfast radio or a track stored on your Apple device. You can even choose between a flip or digital clock view. It also acts as a charger for your iPhone or iPod.
Simplicity seems to be the order of the day – finding a radio station should be as easy as pressing a button – the SmartDoc will find all available FM stations and store them for you.
Soundwise, the SmartDock offers a built-in subwoofer and I hope that the sound quality is great, because in some ways I was expecting something a bit more exciting from a speaker system called ‘HouseParty’ – and for a £100 pricetag. Mind you, it is 800 pounds cheaper than the Bang & Olufsen iPod dock the BeoSound 8!
